For well over 60 years the Morecambe & District Philharmonic Choir has been enriching the musical life of Morecambe and the surrounding area. We sing good choral music of all types - sacred, secular, serious and light. Members of the choir come from Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding areas.

We like to think of ourselves as a large group of friends who share a love of choral music. We currently number about 50 members and we perform three regular concerts each year.

The Choir meets every Wednesday for rehearsals from 7.30-9.45 pm at Morecambe Parish Church (near the Town Hall) with a short break half way through for a welcome cup of tea!

The season usually lasts from September through to June or July the following year during which the choir prepares for two concerts at Easter and summer and a carol concert in December which includes a good glass of mulled wine!

Musical Director – Edward Venn Ph.D. (Music), LRSM

Interested in music from a young age, Edward learned a variety of instruments to a variety of standards before settling on the piano and double bass, which he studied at the University of Birmingham. He subsequently read for a Ph.D. in music, supplementing his study with an increasing interest in performing early music on the viol, and above all, conducting. Since his 2001 appointment as Lecturer in Music at Lancaster, Edward continued to conduct a wide variety of ensembles both in and out of the university, including the Liverpool-based ‘Contemporary Music Making for Amateurs’ group, the Lancaster and District Male Voice Choir and the Lancashire Chamber Orchestra. In 2010 he was appointed the Music Director for the Morecambe and District Philharmonic Choir.
